Rodrigo Neves

Born in Mira, Coimbra, he began his musical studies in 2008, joining the Calouste Gulbenkian Music Conservatory in Aveiro the following year, in the class of Professor Nelson Aguiar, where he completed the 8th grade of clarinet with the highest classification.

Over the years, he has worked with various clarinetists, including António Saiote, Pascal Moraguès, Florent Héau, Philippe Cuper, Nuno Pinto, Luigi Magistrelli, Sun Zhen, Luís Carvalho, Justo Sanz, Josep Fuster.

He was awarded in several national and international competitions, highlighting the 1st prize in the International Wind Wind Competition of La Salette, in the Children and Youth categories in 2012 and 2015, the 1st prize in the High School Competition, organized by the International Clarinet Association and integrated in the ClarinetFest 2018 in Oostende, Belgium and the 1st prize in the Junior category of the VIII National Young Clarinetist Contest, organized by the Associação Portuguesa do Clarinette.

He was also present at ClarinetFest 2015 in Madrid, integrating the Ensemble de Clarinetes of the University of Aveiro, at the Dias da Música festival in Belém in 2016, 2017 and 2018 and at the 2018 Summer Classic festival.

He worked with conductors Pedro Carneiro, António Saiote, Jan Wierzba, Ernst Schelle, Rui Pinheiro, Paulo Martins and Luís Carvalho and with soloists Vasco Dantas Rocha, Tatiana Samouil, António Rosado and Sofia Sousa.

He was selected for the OJ.COM internship in 2018 and to integrate the Young Portuguese Orchestra in the 2016/2017, 2017/2018 and 2018/2019 seasons, under the direction of Pedro Carneiro, having participated, in 2017 and 2019, in the Young festival Euro Classic at the Konzerthaus in Berlin and, also in 2019, at the Festival Vara Magica festival, at the Romanian Athenaeum in Bucharest. He also collaborated with the Portuguese Chamber Orchestra and the Beiras Filarmonia Orchestra.

He is currently pursuing his clarinet studies at the Superior School of Music and Performing Arts, in Porto, in the class of Professor António Saiote.
