Horacio Ferreira
One of the most acclaimed clarinetists of his generation and “Rising Star” of the European Concert Hall Organization, Horácio Ferreira played in the most prestigious concert halls, including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Barbican in London, the Musikverein in Vienna, the Philharmonie of Paris or the new Elbphilharmonie of Hamburg.
Young Musician of the Year 2014 and first clarinetist to win the medium and higher level of the Young Musicians Award, Horácio also won awards at the “Concours Debussy” in Paris, at the prestigious “Prague Spring Competition” in Prague, at the Estoril Interpretation Competition and was winner of the International Clarinet Competition “J. Pakalnis” in Vilnius, of the “La Salette” competition and the “Ageas” New Talents Award. He received the Medal of Merit from the Municipality of Santa Comba Dão and the Revelation Award from the “Anim'Art” magazine.
Graduated from the Superior School of Music and Performing Arts in the class of António Saiote, he was a Gulbenkian Foundation scholarship holder at the Escuela Superior de Musica Reina Sofia in Madrid where he studied with Michel Arrignon and in Paris with Nicolas Baldeyrou.
In 2019, the works “Entre Silêncios” by Luís Tinoco and “Variations on the Carnival of Venice” by Luís Carvalho were dedicated to him. The orchestral version of Sonata nº 1 by Brahms/Berio premiered in Portugal and “Contradança” by Telmo Marques premiered in Spain. He has recorded for RDP/RTP, France Musique, Radio Catalan and Hungarian Television.
As a soloist, he has performed with numerous orchestras such as the Gulbenkian Orchestra, the Porto Casa da Música Symphony Orchestra, the Czech Philharmonic, the Cologne Chamber Orchestra, the Portuguese Symphony Orchestra, the Athens State Orchestra, the Portuguese Symphonic Band, the Beiras Philharmonic, the Cascais Orchestra and Oeiras, Portuguese Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra, Human Music, Tenerife Symphonic Band, among others.
Horácio Ferreira is an artist for the Vandoren brand and plays with a BD5 mouthpiece and V12 reeds.
