Antonio Saiote
Born in Loures, Portugal, António Saiote is a world renowned artist and educator.
He was a Gulbenkian Foundation scholarship holder in Paris with Guy Deplus and Jacques Lancelot, and in Munich with Gerd Starke, where he obtained the Meisterdiplom from the Hochschule of Munich with distinction.
He took a Postgraduate course in Contemporary Music in Spain with Artur Tamayo and Traditional Repertoire in England with Georges Hurst.
He earned a Masters in Orchestral Conducting from the University of Sheffield.
He played with the Gulbenkian Orchestra, Portuguese Symphony, Porto Classical Orchestra, Régie Sinfónica, Rádio Lisboa and Porto, São Paulo, Shanghai, Beiras Philharmonic, Northern Orchestra, Algarve Symphony Orchestra, and Zurich Symphony.
Guest soloist at world congresses in USA, Belgium, France, Sweden, Canada, Japan, Spain and Italy.
He performed at the Sintra, Estoril, Nancy, Shanghai, Macau, Rabat, São Paulo, Belo Horizonte, Caracas, São José, Santos, Lima, Yangi, Musicalta, Oviedo, Guimarães, Aveiro, Vila Real, Póvoa de Varzim, Paços de Festivals Brandão, Espinho, Algarve, Madeira, Azores, Folle Journée (CCB), Camerino, Atri and Porto Alegre.
Since 1998, he has developed a fruitful career as a conductor, having directed all Portuguese orchestras, and orchestras in Spain, Venezuela, France and Germany. He directed operas such as O Amor Industrioso, by Sousa Carvalho, Il Boticário, by Haydn, Amor de Perdição, by João Arroyo, Kleine Mahagony and Os Sete Mortals, by Kurt Weill, O Doido ea Morte, by Alexandre Delgado, Pierrot Lunaire, by Schoenberg, Cosi Fan Tutte, Don Giovanni and the Magic Flute, by Mozart, and The Spanish Hour, by Ravel. He is the principal conductor of the ESMAE Symphony Orchestra.
Jury member at the prestigious competitions in Toulon, Constancia, Seville, Warsaw, Caracas, Kortrik, Ghent, Brasília, and president of the Valentino Buchi competition in Rome.
Named in a unanimous vote Honorable Member of the International Clarinet Association.
He was awarded the title of Latin American Clarinet Personality by the Clariperu Association.
Distinguished with the Medal of Honor of the Municipality of the city of Loures.
He regularly collaborates as a pedagogue, soloist and conductor with the Venezuelan System of Children's and Youth Orchestras.
He was mentor and co-organizer of the World Clarinet Congress 2009 in Porto.
He was artistic director of the Festival and Academia de Guimarães.
He is artistic director of the ESMAE symphony orchestra and the Marcos Romão International Clarinet Meeting, and a founding member of the Ópera Norte.
He has performed or taught in over thirty countries in Asia, Europe, America and North Africa.
He recorded several CDs and maintains an active presence of his performances on Youtube.
He currently teaches at the Porto Superior School of Music and Performing Arts (ESMAE).
